ATHENA
OUR PROJECTS
ATHENA aims to enhance the security and reliability of software and hardware (SW&HW) components used across the European Union, supporting the implementation of the new mandatory cybersecurity requirements introduced by the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA). In an era where European critical infrastructures, industries, and public services face increasing exposure to cyber threats, ATHENA adopts an integrated approach to testing, validation, and certification to strengthen the protection, resilience, and trustworthiness of digital products and systems.
Within the project, CyberSocial Lab. leads the activities related to ethical and regulatory governance, ensuring that all research and innovation actions comply with EU legal and ethical frameworks, including the GDPR, the Cybersecurity Act, the AI Act, and the forthcoming Cyber Resilience Act. The Lab also coordinates the definition and implementation of the project’s Data Management Plan, guaranteeing transparent and FAIR-compliant handling of all data generated throughout the project lifecycle.
CyberSocial Lab. is responsible for designing the Ethics and Regulatory Governance (ERGO) Framework and developing the ETHAI model (Ethics of AI), translating the EU’s Ethics Guidelines for Trustworthy AI into practical methodologies, assessment tools, and best-practice recommendations. These frameworks ensure that the ethical and regulatory dimensions are embedded into every stage of technological development, fostering trust, accountability, and societal acceptance of AI-based cybersecurity solutions.
Through its contribution, CyberSocial Lab. ensures that ATHENA not only strengthens Europe’s cyber resilience but does so ethically, lawfully, and with a citizen-centred vision, supporting a trustworthy and responsible digital transformation across the EU.
